Fearnet Interview with Buffy The Vampire Slayer Author Nancy Holder

Fearnet recently spoken to the author of the “Buffy The Vampire Slayer” novels about what’s next for her and her memories of writing BTVS books:

It seems you were ahead of your time when it comes to the paranormal romance genre…

I started our writing a lot of short horror fiction. And I wrote nothing but short stories for four years. If I could make a living doing that, I would do that. But I was probably one of the first women splatterpunks, and I really liked being ahead of the game, or a little bit ahead. So now watching the boom is a thrill. I love it. When I was writing all my Buffy books, when the show was ending and when Angel was cancelled, I was so bummed out, because I thought it was the coolest gig I would ever have. I absolutely loved writing Buffy books. Some people think that writing tie-in books is somehow demeaning or limiting; I never felt that way. Just because I loved the show so much. Reading the scripts was eye-opening. The writers on Buffy and Angel were genius-level writers. People tend to discount TV writers and people who write on assignment, but for that reason I was really sad when Buffy ended. Because I so admired the writing of it. Then I thought, “That’s probably the coolest thing that will ever happen to me.” And it hasn’t been. It’s continued to be cool. So I think that would be my reaction – “Yay, there’s still more opportunity and there’s more of that urban fantasy/paranormal stuff going on.” So yay for that.

What are you working on now?

Right now I’m working on the second novel in a young adult dark fantasy series with my co-author Debbie Vigue (with an accent mark over the e). Our book is called Hotblooded, and it’s the second book in a werewolf trilogy. We just turned in our last young adult dark fantasy novel for Simon & Shuster, called Vanquished. Then I’m writing a novella for a YA dystopian anthology. And I’ve got a tie-in project, but I haven’t signed the papers yet, so I don’t want to say what it is. But it’s very cool. It’s gonna be a cool project.

Rutina Wesley will NOT be joining “The Walking Dead”

From a post of the message board for the television series “The Walking Dead” a source claimed that True Blood star Rutina Wesley has joined  “The Walking Dead”:

“We have received word from one of our sources that a certain actress from A show called true blood will be playing Michonne in the Walking Dead TV series, scheduled to make her debut on the very last episode of season 2.

( NOTE: This is not confirmed just coming from our source, who has always been spot on in the past, but we will wait and see).”

According to TrueBloodOnline, those rumors are not true. The fansite for the television series True Blood based on the Sookie Stackhouse book series by Charlaine Harris recently spoken to Rutina’s representatives about this rumor and they confirm it’s not true.

Fearnet Interview with Charlaine Harris

Thanks to EricandSookieLovers.com for the heads up. Fearnet recently chatted with the author of the Sookie Stackhouse series about why she’s ending it and spoilers about the newest book “Deadlocked”:

You just finished writing the twelfth Sookie Stackhouse novel…

The penultimate book, because I’m going to finish with the thirteenth.

Is it tough to finish this series, to let it go?

It’s tough to walk away from the money. [Laughs.] Yeah, it is going to be tough.

But you don’t have to.

No. I don’t have to. But I just felt like I’m finishing the story. I don’t have anything left. That’s what I’ve got. I don’t want to keep writing when I’m running on empty. I think we all know writers who have continued to write the same characters when they run out of gas apparently. I just don’t want to be like that.

You’ve written plenty of other novels beside the Southern Vampire Mysteries. Do you have a long list of things you’ve put on the back burner because of Sookie?

Yes, I do. [Laughs.] And honestly it is so exciting to do something different.

How far into the thirteenth Stackhouse novel are you?

Zero! [Laughs.] That’s my next project. When I get home I have to go over the copy-edited pages of Sookie 12, which will be out in May. That will freshen up my memory about what I need to do in Sookie 13, to tie everything together. A seemingly impossible task.
