Press Release for Steve Niles’s “The Nosferatu Wars”

Thanks to Scifi Mafia for the heads up. After the huge success of the 30 Days of Night series, Steve Niles has created another series involving vampires again.

Press Release:

When Steve Niles (Criminal Macabre, 30 Days of Night) premiered artwork from his upcoming collaboration with artist Menton3 (Monocyte, Proof: Endangered, Crawl to Me) via his Twitter feed, speculation and anticipation spread like wildfire across the Internet. Today, Dark Horse is proud to announce that this new vampiric tale will premiere in Dark Horse Presents!

The Black Plague was a time of death and misery . . . except for the undead. For vampires, the Black Death was a welcome relief from being hunted and a time of incredible growth for the undead. On the night of their wedding, two vampire lovers are torn apart and separated for five hundred years, setting off a sequence of events that will bring the modern world to its knees!

Steve Niles and Ben Templesmith redefined the vampire genre with the groundbreaking comic series 30 Days of Night in 2002. Ten years later, Niles is poised to make history again, as he and Menton3 blow the sparkle off of the undead in Nosferatu Wars, premiering in Dark Horse Presents later this year!“I haven’t been this excited about working on something in a long time. Menton3 is the perfect artist and we couldn’t be more thrilled to be doing this at Dark Horse,” Niles said. “This year I’m making a big push to become 100 percent creator owned. Nosferatu Wars will be a big part of that, I hope.”

We Heart TV Interview with “Being Human” star Sam Witwer

Thanks to WeHeartTv.com for the heads up. “Being Human” star Sam Witwer talks to We Heart TV about his character Aidan, working with his co-stars Sam Huntington and Meaghan Rath, and what would happen if Aidan and Mitchell ever meet.

AY: In season 1 we came to know Aidan on a very intimate level. We learned of his past, the torment he endured, about his relationships with Bishop, vampires and humans. We were able to watch him evolve from a creature who enjoyed being a vampire, into a creature that felt lost – soul searching to find the man he had been before the beast took hold. What will we be seeing of Aidan in season two, and will he be able to juggle the vulnerable vampire self-discovery to blend and be human with the vampire he is expected to be according to Mother?

SW: Short answer… no.

Long answer;  The metaphor we play with concerning Aidan’s vamp stuff is drug addiction.  I don’t think that’s any secret.  In season one,  he was smart enough to know that he needed to stay away from his old drug buddies (the Vampires) if he wanted to stay clean.  This season he no longer has that option so we start to see old personality traits creep back into his character.

We’ve heard a lot about how feared this guy was. How ruthless.  Well we get to see it this season.  We even get to go back to the 1930s and tell some stories about a time when things were a lot better for the Boston Vampires. I think it’s safe to say that we see new sides of the Aidan character.  I just hope the audience doesn’t turn on him for those new sides cuz it ain’t all smiles and laughter.

AY: I’ve also read a lot about the amazing chemistry you have with both Sammy Huntington and Meaghan Rath. What is the funniest thing that you guys have done on or off set?

SW: Oh, see that’s tough…  We’re constantly laughing. Too many things to name.  Sammy Huntington and Meaghan Rath are amazing people to be around.  Truly,  these two are beyond what I’d term as capable actors.  They are uncommon.  They are motivated, driven, intelligent, and stupidly witty.

Sammy likes to come up behind you and dig his chin into the area between your shoulder and your neck.  Why?  Cuz it’s really psychologically uncomfortable. Meaghan likes to take on this strange Spanish-like high pitched voice and ask me questions like –

M – Wampypre,  Waht is that theeng on the wall?  Is Eeet your Coffeen?

Me – Um… no. It’s a locker.  It’s my locker.

M – A lockahr?

Me – Yes.

M – Why Doo you need a lockahr, Wampyre?

Me – Well… um..

M – Is eeet becuz you needt to lock yourself eeen your Coffeen?

AY: One last Being Human question – if Aidan and Mitchell walked into a bar together, what would happen?

Thunderdome.  Two men enter,  one man leaves.

Collider Interview with Vampire Diaries star Joseph Morgan

Collider recently spoken to The Vampire Diaries star Joseph Morgan about the characters he portrayed in films and television, he’s favorite flashback scene on The Vampire Diaries, The Walking Dead, and more.

Question: When you play a character that’s lived for so long, how do you approach the backstory for that much time?

JOSEPH MORGAN: It does go on forever. There’s a certain amount that’s developed for you, through the flashbacks, and then you fill in some of the gaps. I tend not to make up too many solid events that he’s been through because then that informs what I’m playing, and then that’s redefined by the writers anyway. When I joined the show, I didn’t know that Stefan and Klaus had a history together. My first few scenes that I was playing with him, I had no idea that it was going to go back and that you would find out that we knew each other, for years. Back in the ‘20s, we were friends. So, it’s useful, to a certain extent, to make backstory and think about that, but to create anything that’s too solid is detrimental, when you’re playing things, later on.

Out of all the flashbacks you’ve done on the show, which era have you enjoyed the most?

MORGAN: Chicago 1920′s, for sure. I’ve done a lot of period drama before. A lot of my jobs have been that. A few of the eras, I had visited before, but 1920′s Chicago was something that I was immediately attracted to. The tuxes, the style of the whole thing, and the speakeasys were incredibly exciting for me.

What is your take on the allure of vampires?

MORGAN: First of all, they’ve been made sexy, over the last few years. They were always monsters, before that. Interview with a Vampire made vampires sexy. I think there’s something that people can relate to, especially teenagers, with the idea of someone who has an older, dark secret and is struggling with something inside themselves and to be accepted because there’s a part of themselves that they’re ashamed of, and yet they really would just like to be like everybody else. I think that’s something that’s instantly relatable to teenagers.

Do you ever worry about the fact that there could come a point when you can’t be the villain on The Vampire Diaries anymore?

MORGAN: Yes, I worry about them making him softer. I think they can make him more human and more relatable without necessarily taking away any of has bad-ass-ism. I think that it’s possible to have someone who is an anti-hero, who does tear hearts out and break necks, and you can still relate to him, on a certain level. I do worry. I trust [the writers], and I think they’ll keep him as bad-ass as possible.

You’ve got two new Original brothers coming in this season. How do they rank, compared to Klaus?

MORGAN: They’re bad-asses in training, I would say. They are doing well. They’ve started to master the heart-pulling-out and the neck-breaking, and all that stuff. One of them has been around for a good few hundred years, and the other one’s no spring chicken either. They’ve got a lot to learn, coming into the modern world. I think one of the differences is that my character is hybrid, so he’s part werewolf and part vampire. That boosts me up the bad-ass scale a little bit. At the moment, I’m looking back over my shoulder and they’re still way behind me, but I don’t know. We’ll see if they catch up.

Do you know who’s in the fourth coffin?

MORGAN: Yes.

What are you currently watching on television?

MORGAN: I know it’s not on our network, but I’m a massive fan of The Walking Dead. I’m a huge, huge fan. I love that show. I’m doing a fan convention in February, in Orlando, Florida, and I think Lauren Cohan is going to be there, as well. I’m excited because I’ve never met her. I’ve read all the comic books and the graphic novels. I just love it. I’m putting it out there, just in case they want someone for a guest episode.

So, it’s not enough for you to be a vampire and a werewolf, you want to be a zombie now, too?

MORGAN: I’d rather be one of the survivors. There’s something intriguing to me about them, and about being alive in this post-apocalyptic world, where suddenly we define the rules. There’s no society. There’s no formula there. Suddenly, it’s down to us to define what’s good and what’s bad, what’s right and what’s wrong. That’s what’s exciting to me, about all of that.

IGN Interview with “Blade” Voice Actor Harold Perrineau

IGN recently spoken to “Lost” star Harold Perrineau about his new role in the G4 Network anime series “Blade.” Why he signed up to voice the character of Blade.

IGN TV: It’s obviously a dream we all had as a kid to be a superhero, in one form or the other. When you got the call about Blade, was it like, “I’ve got to do this”?

Harold Perrineau: Exactly. It was exactly that. It was like Blade, a superhero, which is excellent. There aren’t a lot of African American superheroes, so that was the other thing. Not that it had to be, it was really great just to get a chance to do it. And I’m never going to be that big and muscular, and so I try and dream about it all the time. So it was great to be able to do the voice and hopefully jump on the action hero bandwagon.

IGN: The first Blade movie came out ahead of this kind of insane, vampire explosion we’ve seen in the past few years, some of which have a much lighter version of vampires than others. Is it exciting to be part of one where it’s like, “You’ve got to kill these suckers”?

Perrineau: [Laughs] Exactly! Even though I am a vampire, I’ve gotta f***ing kill them all. Exactly.”Enough of this s**t!” Yeah, yeah. And at the end, the dude in Twilight, you just get to cut his head off. [Laughs] No, no. I’m sure he’s a very nice guy. In a sense it was ahead of the curve not only in those days, but also in the superhero action movies. It was ahead in all that. Now we have all those things. We have a bunch of superheroes like the Avengers and all that stuff, and a ton of vampire stuff. And Blade was before all those things. So yeah, it is kind of cool to kind of be affiliated with that kind of a thing.

Blade” The Anime Series begins tomorrow, Friday 13 TH on the G4 Network.  Check your local listings for the time.

The Insider Interview with Kate Beckinsale

The Insider recently spoken to “Underworld” star Kate Beckinsale about the latest film in the series “Underworld 4 Awakening” and how she felt intimidated to wear that famous black leather cat suit.

“I remember the first movie I did I was very intimidated by the costume,” says Kate, who first donned the form-fitting costume in 2003. “I trust it now. Actually, it gives you a little bit of help, if anything.”

In the 3D Underworld Awakening, the fourth and most spectacular installment of the popular vampires vs. werewolves franchise, mankind has discovered the existence of both the Vampire and Lycan clans, and launched an all-out war to eradicate both species. Selene faces her most powerful adversary yet, just as she discovers a shocking secret that will change everything she has ever fought for.

“It was a very life-changing role for me personally,” says Kate of Selene. “I feel very affectionate towards it. It’s exciting to be able to follow a character over such a long period of time, and it’s rare to get that chance.”

Bloody Disgusting Interview with “Shinku” writer Ron Marz

Bloody Disgusting writer Big J recently spoken to Shinku writer Ron Marz about the comic.

Shinku is the epic story of one samurai’s war against a clan of vampires, as she tries to eradicate every last blood-sucker on the planet. The solicitations for this book summarized it best with, “If you’re looking for vampires that sparkle … this ain’t it.” Shinku is a vampire story with balls and it brings back the gritty, stomach turning horror that has been missing from other vampire titles on shelves.

Tell us about where the idea for Shinku originated?

RM: In all honesty, the seed of the idea came from a Vampirella story I was going to pitch years ago about Vampirella teaming up a Japanese vampire hunter. That story never even got pitched because the editor I wanted to work with left the company. So the concept went back into the slush pile in my brain, and eventually came out again as this samurai/vampire hunter story … sans Vampirella, obviously.

With the success of Twilight, True Blood, and 30 Days of Night the market for vampires is at an all-time high and oversaturated. How is Shinku different from your run-of-the-mill vampire romance story?

RM: Well, for starters, Shinku doesn’t suck like Twilight does. Obviously I’m being a little flippant here, but Shinku is me telling my version of a vampire story. The general Shinku concept was in place long before Twilight became a thing, or True Blood hit HBO. I was actually a little reticent to do Shinku now just because there’s such a vampire surge at the moment, and you never want to seem like you’re jumping on the bandwagon. But Shinku is in a lot of ways the anti-Twilight because our vampires are most definitely monsters who prey upon humanity, rather than cuddling with them. If anything, Shinku puts vampires back in the roll of unapologetic bad guys.

Official Photos of Kate Beckinsale in Flaunt Magazine

Underworld star Kate Beckinsale is in Flaunt Magazine and she chatted about the latest Underworld film :

Beckinsale—for a woman who carries the Underworld action franchise as Selene, a beautiful vampire warrior—is remarkably unaffected. She’s frank, and genuinely funny. You could be around her for a touch more than an hour and feel like you’ve gotten the same treatment as someone who’s hung out with her for years. I do have the advantage of having met her at the photo shoot you’re ogling, where she regaled me with a story of her fear of heights. While on a recent vacation to the Caribbean, her and her tweenaged daughter, Lily, found themselves high in the sky after a misunderstanding of what exactly parasailing was. Beckinsale blames Lily for making a scene and begging for a premature descent from the seamy operators of the parasailing operation below, but there’s the sense that mummy may have pulled the real proverbial plug.
In an effort to invoke Beckinsale’s fear of heights, I suggest the Ferris wheel. “I’ve been pushed off several buildings this year,” she says of her Underworld Awakening stunts, canceling out any idea that she’s a wuss. We decide on the rollercoaster. “I’m not terrible on heights,” she explains. “I’m worse if you wanted me to get into a coffin.” So, no coffins for the vampire warrior. “I also wouldn’t like to be in a pod in space, and then suddenly be absolutely cut off, and just be whizzing around space forever by myself. We’re absolutely not doing that today either.”
